I have been and perhaps will always continue to think of myself primarily as an architect. I had no formal training in art and had not done any “artistic” work for most of my life. But it has always been my dream to continue my childhood interests in art after retirement.
I jumped into painting to explore colors, transparencies, and different approaches of “form” making. Abstract rather than representational or reality inspired art appealed to me.
Perhaps it was a desire to move away from architecture which is informed by many practical considerations beyond aesthetics.
In art I am essentially a painter. Collage is something that can interact with the painted surface while providing another layer of organizing elements, to contrast, enhance or transform the initial ideas in painting. It also provides a faster way to consider multiple options – and provides more immediate feedback. I find collage to be a fun challenging approach for my art.
