The images that I choose as my subject matter are taken from the world around me. They hover between the realism I see and the ambiguity and sense of mystery which I try to create.
For the past several years, the work has been on paper, and made primarily using collage and mixed media (inks, colored pencils, pastels and gouache). I use a variety of papers including wallpapers and repurposed old drawings and monotypes. The finished drawings reflect the art elements that interest me most: pattern, repetition, texture, and color. The drawings are built up layer by layer, allowing some of the under layers to come through, often creating surprising results.
