Claire EB Robinson

Artist Statement

Growing up in Connecticut I transplanted to Philadelphia in 1975 to continue my education. I’ve lived in Germantown/MtAiry for almost my entire stay here. I’m the only child of an educator mom and an engineer/amateur-photographer father. Looking at my own strengths, my skills and interests probably derive more from my father. I love technology, and my attraction to photography has endured since owning a Brownie camera too far back to mention. Working in medicine provided me an education on being human but left me little time, until retirement, to pursue the art of photography in more depth. I’m attracted to strong lines, details, colors, and shapes, more recently what peeks out of the shadows. I fill my photos with as much eye candy as possible. Architecture is instantly gratifying, nevertheless, with whatever my surroundings surprise me and visually grab my attention. I’ve no aversion to photo manipulation but for the most part only to reproduce what I’m visualizing at that moment in time. Photo manipulation to abstraction is another toy..., again part of the “tech” of photography. Whatever the subject, I want to take others along with me on this visual ride.
